CHAPTER FIELD/SAFETY RULES

GENERAL TRAINING DAY RULES

  1. All dogs must always be under control (on leash or at heel) until you are in your designated training field

  2. All dogs are to be leashed or crated while in the parking lot or pavilion

  3. Anyone entering the training fields must be wearing hunter-orange

  4. Shooting live ammunition is not allowed near the parking lot or in the Lower Puppy Field

  5. Only hinged frame (break-open) shotguns of conventional gauge are allowed to be used during training and tests

  6. Only members of the SEMI chapter are allowed to shoot during training days

  7. Maximum of Four (4) Gunners allowed in the field at one time

  8. A valid Michigan hunting license is required to shoot live ammunition while training

  9. Only members of the SEMI chapter are allowed to order and/or pick up birds

  10. No vehicles in the field at any time other than on test days or due to an emergency

  11. Guest members are allowed to participate during 1 training day w/o membership but shooting is not permitted and a waiver must be signed

  12. All guns may only be loaded at the designated training field and must be unloaded before leaving that field

  13. Start and end your training session per your scheduled time slot

  14. The person whose name in on the sign-up sheet must be present at the field (no holding spots for others)

  15. DNR Parking Lot Gates (Yellow gate) must be open during permitted training days. It is your responsibility to make sure it is open and closed if you are the first or last one to leave. The lock combination for all Highland Field Trial Grounds Association course gates can be found in your membership package

  16. Clean up after yourself and dog in the parking lots and pavilion areas

  17. Live Fire is not allowed on Field Trial Grounds on days that SEMI NAVHDA does not have a training permit.

    SAFETY PRACTICES/RULES

  1. Always keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction

  2. Be certain of your target, your line of fire and what lies beyond your target

  3. Keep your trigger finger outside the guard and off the trigger until you are ready to fire

  4. Do not shoot towards Cooley Lake Road (Barn Course) or Duck Lake Road (Sod Farm)

  5. Do not shoot when a person or dog is in front of your line of fire

  6. Avoid shooting when a dog has broke or is in motion

  7. Handlers are responsible for making their gunner(s) aware of their training intentions and taking safe shots only

  8. Always keep your gun on safe until you intend to shoot

  9. When in doubt, don’t shoot
